Friday, March 1, 2024 - From Bomdila to Itanagar

Continuing our journey, we bid farewell to Bomdila and embarked on the road to Itanagar, the bustling capital city of Arunachal Pradesh. Along the way, we traversed through breathtaking landscapes and quaint villages, offering a glimpse into the rustic charm of life in the Himalayan region.

Our first stop was at Nag Mandir, a place steeped in history dating back to 1966. This sacred site holds cultural significance for the locals and visitors alike, serving as a beacon of spiritual solace amidst the serene surroundings.

We also marveled at the Nechipu Tunnel, a recent inauguration spanning 500 meters, which has drastically reduced travel time by six kilometers and 30 minutes to less than 30 seconds. This crucial infrastructure improvement has not only enhanced connectivity but also addressed safety concerns, as the previous road was prone to accidents due to frequent fog, causing sluggish traffic movement.

During our journey, we made a pit stop at the Tippi Orchid Research Center, where we were treated to a stunning view of the Kameng River, a tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra. The center showcased the rich biodiversity of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting its wealth of orchid species and diverse flora.

As we continued our scenic drive through Arunachal's dense mountains and Assam's picturesque tea gardens, we crossed back into Arunachal Pradesh, inching closer to our final destination, Itanagar. Checking into Cygnett Inn, we couldn't help but notice the abrupt change in geography as we entered the Arunachal border, transitioning from the flat plains of Assam to the towering mountains of Arunachal Pradesh in the blink of an eye.

Local Food to Try: Upon reaching Itanagar, indulge in the local cuisine, including dishes like Bamboo Shoot Fry, Apong, and Pehak (fermented fish chutney), at eateries in the city.

Weather: Expect moderately humid temperatures during the day with cooler evenings, so dress accordingly for the journey to Itanagar.

Special Tip: Keep your camera ready to capture the scenic beauty of the countryside during the drive, and take breaks at roadside stalls to sample local snacks and interact with villagers.
