Day 2 - Mar 1st, 2025 - Exploring Ravangla – Monasteries, Memories, and Moments of Peace

As the curtains drew open on my first morning in Ravangla, a soft veil of clouds greeted me, with a tiny ray of sunlight gently making its way toward the towering  Buddha statue outside my bedroom window. The chilled floor beneath my feet reminded me of the high-altitude weather, making my first steps out of bed a careful tiptoe toward another day of adventure.

Before setting out, we visited the local shops at Buddha Park for breakfast, indulging in crispy parathas paired with Suja (Butter Tea)—a warm, slightly salty Tibetan delicacy that added to the mountain charm of the morning. With our stomachs full and spirits high, we were ready to explore.

Our first stop was Ralong Monastery, a Tibetan monastery about 12 km from Buddha Park , nestled in a peaceful valley. The journey there wasn’t the easiest—the road, damaged by frequent landslides, made for a bumpy ride, but ongoing efforts kept it passable.

Along the way, our driver met an old friend who decided to join us for the visit, adding an unexpected but pleasant local perspective to our trip.

After soaking in the tranquility of the monastery, we made our way to Namchi, reminiscing about our visit to Char Dham nearly eight years ago. The transformation was striking—development had significantly reshaped the landscape, adding a modern touch to the spiritual town.

Before heading back, we took a short break at Namchi Market, where we treated ourselves to a light local snack, savoring the region’s flavors in the midst of the bustling marketplace.

Returning to Buddha Park, we finally took time to explore the intricate Buddha statue up close, marveling at the detailed paintings inside its base. As the sun set, the park resonated with the soft echoes of prayer songs, a soothing sound that wrapped up our day in a perfect note of peace and reflection.

With a heart full of serene moments and a mind ready for more, I drifted into a cozy sleep, eager for the next chapter of my Sikkim adventure.
